AMD's boat still floats
by Claudia Sonea

Now is to see if it will get back in the competition for the first place. AMD hasn't had a competitive high-end product since Intel launched its Core 2 Duo processors in July 2006 and on the computer market that is a long time indeed. AMD acquired ATI to better compet with Intel in mainstream markets, but that proved to be useless as it is no match to nVidia's GeForce 8800. Although Intel and nVidia dominate the CPU market, there is still hope for AMD to regain its lost grace. The company announced new changes, like an improved quad-core Phenom- all four cores will be on one die. Also the hard-core will suffer changes there will be released a new enthusiast platform, code-named FASN8, that supports two quad-core Phenoms. Something else that is about to come: AMD's 10h architecture will power new server chips (code-named Barcelona), new desktop chips (code-named Agena) that are due by the end of 2007. Things seem to become interesting, but people want to see facts and like most of you I'm a non-believer until I see something actually happens. It is still a brand that people all over have heard about, so there is still hope and opportunities. I still use an AMD and from my point of you is great, but on the other side I'm not a professional, so better stay connected and see the best that's about to come, especially because good things are predicted.
